Shift in Schedule - Open Space

Shift in Schedule - Open Space
Seseh, Bali

At 9:30 PM in Bali, I will settle in for my daily developer call. Just a week ago, in the US, the same meeting was at 8:30 AM. Our move to Asia has inverted my schedule. But suddenly, my mornings and early afternoons are opened up. The open space is a gift.

I'm there when my son, Weller, wakes up. Alaina, Weller, and I will hop on our scooter, embarking on a daily quest for espresso. As we zip through the streets of Seseh, Weller gazes around in awe. Special moments. Something I'm grateful for.

It hasn't taken long to notice a change in Weller's behavior towards me. He's more engaged. More excited to see me. I mentioned this to Alaina, her response was a little painful but true: "He sees you a lot more now."

The shift in family dynamic is a stark benefit of long-term travel. There are many advantages, but the one that strikes me today is the enhanced quality in relationship with those I travel with.

This change in environment and schedule, punches well above the effort.
